All you need is a crochet hook, some yarn, and a bit of tolerance.

1. The Lovely Classic Granny Square

The granny square is the heart of crochet—simple, enjoyable, and really adaptable. You can crochet just one for a coaster or make a number of them and turn them into a sweater, bag, or scarf. For beginners, it’s a great way to practice basic stitches, such as the slip stitch and double crochet. You can check out my tutorial on how to crochet the solid granny square below.

2.  A Chunky or Granny Square Crochet Scarf

A chunky scarf is a great crochet project for beginners.  For the chunky look, use a big hook and thick yarn; you’ll see the results quickly, which is exactly what you need when starting out. Stick to single or half-double crochet for a clean, avant-garde design. You can check out my tutorial on how to crochet the Tranquil scarf below.

3. Simple Dishcloths or Washcloths

These are small, quick, and super practical.  Practice your basic stitches while making something functional. Cotton yarn works best for making washcloths because it’s sturdy and absorbent.

4. Make a Crochet Headband or Ear Warmer

Who doesn’t love a crochet project that is cute, cozy, and beginner-friendly?  All you need to make is a simple rectangle, folded and stitched at the ends, becomes an ear warmer that looks way more advanced than it is. You can check out my tutorial on how to crochet the Suzette Ear Warmer below.

5.  Try An Easy Plant Hanger

Here is a way to style up your plant babies. A crochet plant hanger only needs a few basic knots and chains, making it ideal for crochet newcomers and a perfect housewarming gift.

6. Make a  Beanie

For crocheters who don’t have experience working in rounds yet, this beanie is made as a rectangle, then folded, and seamed up. Top it off with a pom-pom, and you’ve got an adorable hat that makes it great and stylish for the winter season. You can check out my tutorial on how to crochet this almond beanie below.

7.  Try a Mini Crochet Bag
