This stitch also has other names, known as the Granite stitch, the Linen stitch, and the Woven stitch. Moss stitch combines two of the most basic crochet stitches: the single crochet and the chain stitch. Yup, it is that easy, especially for those new to crocheting.
The moss stitch is a straightforward pattern to learn and memorize. You're set to learn moss stitch if you know how to make chain stitches and single crochet. The Moss stitch requires an even amount of chains.
1. Chain an even number of stitches. (To copy what I made, chain 20)
2. Row 1: Single crochet in the 4th chain from the hook, *chain 1, skip 1 chain, single crochet in the next chain, repeat from * to the end of the row. The last stitch will be a single crochet in the last chain.
3. Row 2: Chain 2, and turn. Single crochet in the chain-1 space from the previous row, *chain 1, skip 1 single crochet, single crochet in the next chain-1 space, and repeat from * to the end of the row. The last stitch will be a single crochet worked into the space between the chain-2 turning chain and the single crochet from the previous row.
4. Repeat row 2 until you get your desired length.
