The Basket Weave Stitch: How To Crochet

 

    In this tutorial, I will teach you how to crochet the basket weave stitch. This stitch might look complicated, but it is really easy to do. All you need to know is front post and back post double crochets, which I will explain below. The basket crochet stitch is a repeat of four rows. What is awesome about this stitch is that it is reversible and looks the same on both sides.

dc-double crochet dc/rf-raised double crochet at the front of the fabric (To crochet this stitch, yarn over the hook, insert the hook into the front of the stitch yarn over, and continue working the stitch like double crochet.

dc/rb-raised double crochet at the back of the fabric. (To crochet this stitch, yarn over the hook insert the hook into the back of the stitch, yarn over, and complete the stitch like working a double crochet.

Foundation: Chain to the amount you would like by keep it in a multiple of 8.

For this stitch, you will need to chain in Multiples of 8 plus 4 for the base. I chained 24+2+2=28

Row 1: Ch 2, turn yarn around 

*DC/RF around the next 4 sts. DC/RB around the next 4 sts. Repeat * this across.  1 DC into the top of your turning Ch.

Row 2 Ch 2, turn yarn.

*DC/RF around the next 4 sts. DC/RB around the next 4 sts. * Repeat this * across. 1 DC into the top of your turning Ch.

Row 3: Ch 2, turn yarn.

*DC/RF around the next 4 sts. DC/RB around the next 4 sts. * Repeat this * across. 1 DC into the top of your turning Ch.

Row 4: Ch 2, turn yarn.

*DC/RF around the next 4 sts. DC/RB around the next 4 sts. * Repeat this * across. 1 DC into the top of your turning Ch.

 For Rows 5-8 You will start crocheting a raised back double crochet at the back of your yarn.

Row 5: Ch 2, turn yarn.

*DC/RB around the next 4 sts. DC/RF around the next 4 sts. * Repeat this * across. 1 DC into the top of your turning Ch.

Row 6: Ch 2, turn yarn.

*DC/RB around the next 4 sts. DC/RF around the next 4 sts. * Repeat this * across. 1 DC into the top of your turning Ch.

Row 7: Ch 2, turn yarn.

*DC/RB around the next 4 sts. DC/RF around the next 4 sts. * Repeat this * across. 1 DC into the top of your turning Ch.

Repeat Row 8: Ch 2, turn yarn.

*DC/RB around the next 4 sts. DC/RF around the next 4 sts. * Repeat this * across. 1 DC into the top of your turning Ch.

Rows 2-7 until you reach your desired length. Fasten off the yarn and weave in all yarn ends
