In my area, markets and festivals have celebrated the sunflower season, which put me in the mood to crochet a sunflower granny square. Granny Squares can be intimidating, especially for those still new to crocheting. There is no need to fear; in this post, I will teach you an easy way to crochet a sunflower granny square.

How to crochet the sunflower square.

1.    Start with a magic circle, or chain 4, and slip stitch into the first chain. Chain 3, Make 11 double crochet into the ring.  Close the circle and slip stitch into the top of the chain 3 =12 double crochets

 

2.    Chain 1, add a single crochet into the same stitch. Make two single crochets into every other stitch around the circle. Slip stitch into chain 1. This will  =24 double crochets

 

3.    Chain 3 dc3tog (There have to be 4 loops left on the hook before pulling through) into the same stitch, ch2, skip the next stitch. *  Dc4tog (There have to be 5 loops left on the hook before pulling through) into the next stitch, chain 2, skip the next stitch. Repeat * 10 times =12 petals

 

Border for granny square 

4.    Chain 3, make 2 double crochets in the same stitch, chain 3, and make 3 double crochets into the same stitch.

5.    Make 3 half-double into the next two chain spaces. When you reach the corner chain space, Chain 3, Make 3 double crochets, chain 3, and make 3 double crochets into the same space. *Make 3 half-doubles into the next two chain spaces. When you reach the corner chain space Chain 3, make 3 double crochets, chain 3, and make 3. Repeat* 2 more times. This will make  48 stitches in total. Slip stitch into the top of the 3rd chain.

 

Top border.

       1.  Chain 3, 1 dc into the same stitch, 1 double crochet into each stitch before the chain space.

  2. Into the chain space add 2 double crochets, 2 chains, 2 double crochets

 3. 1 double crochet into the stitch. Repeat until you reach the chain space.

4.    Into the chain space add 2 double crochets, 2 chains, and 2 double crochet

5. 1 double crochet into each stitch. Repeat until you reach the chain space.

6. Into the chain space, add another 2 double crochets, 2 chains, 2 double crochet.

7. 1 double crochet into each stitch. Repeat until you reach the chain space.

8. Into the chain space, add  2 double crochets, 2 chains, 2 double crochets

9. 1 double crochet into each stitch. Repeat until you reach the starting chains.

 and slip stitch into the top of the 3rd chain. Fasten off and weave in all yarn ends.
